After over 20 years of performing together,  Bitter Creek band is ending.  The farewell performance is being rescheduled due to a major snowstorm.  Please check back with the Avalon schedule or check here for an update.  Thanks, and stay safe and warm!  Spring is coming!

The Bitter Creek bluegrass band is based on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, with members from the Easton, Denton, and Millington areas.

Band members are:
Dick Woodard - banjo, vocals, guitar
Lex Price - Bass, vocals
Ed Finkner - guitar, vocals
Jon Simmons - fiddle, mandolin, vocals

Bitter Creek performs various flavors of bluegrass music, ranging from the traditional  - like  the Stanley Brothers "How Mountain Girls Can Love" to "Eastbound and Down" from the Smokey and the Bandit movie, to "Caravan", a Duke Ellington tune, as well as assorted banjo and fiddle tunes and songs.

Earlier this year Dick Woodard decided he was ready to retire from performing out, to enjoy some time with his wife Dottie, and to have some hand surgery (playing banjo can be hazardous to your health!).  Knowing it would be very difficult to replace Dick, the rest of us decided to leave the memory of Bitter Creek intact and move on.  Lex has also decided to retire, though he may be back on the scene now and again when the bug bites.

Eddie and Jon will continue on with former Bitter Creek member Toby Price, and Alan Breeding on banjo (who has filled in for Bitter Creek jobs occasionally and has played with Eddie and Toby for years), and Jim Bienemann on bass fiddle, who has been in various groups with Jon for over 30 years.  For more information on this new group "New and Used Bluegrass", contact Ed Finkner.
